Lecturer: Department of Ancient Studies [South Africa]

 

Duties/Pligte

• Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching of Ancient Cultures (ancient West Asia and ancient North Africa) and Biblical Hebrew at the lower levels;
• Postgraduate supervision in Ancient Cultures;
• Continuous research leading to the publication of research outputs in subject-specific publications;
• Active involvement in all departmental activities;
• Active involvement in community interaction projects;
• Effective performance of academic and administrative tasks.

• Nagraadse studieleiding in Antieke Kulture;
• Voortgesette navorsing wat sal lei tot die publikasie van navorsingsuitsette in vakgerigte publikasies;
• Aktiewe betrokkenheid by alle departementele aktiwiteite;
• Aktiewe betrokkenheid by gemeenskapsinteraksieprojekte;
• Effektiewe uitvoering van akademiese en administratiewe verpligtinge.

Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes

• A doctoral degree in Ancient Cultures with specialisation in the cultures of ancient West Asia and/or ancient North Africa;
• An undergraduate qualification in Biblical Hebrew;
• A publication record and demonstrated research potential in the above-mentioned research area;
• Experience in the teaching of Ancient Cultures and/or Biblical Hebrew;
• The ability to work independently as well as in a team;
• Flexibility to get involved in the curricula and modules offered by the Department of Ancient Studies;
• Proficiency in the use of information technologies in the teaching and study of Ancient Cultures and Biblical Hebrew.

  'n Doktorsgraad in Antieke Kulture met spesialisering in die kulture van antieke Wes-Asië en/of antieke Noord-Afrika;
• 'n Voorgraadse kwalifikasie in Bybelse Hebreeus;
• 'n Publikasierekord en bewese navorsingspotensiaal in bogenoemde navorsingsgebiede;
• Ervaring in die onderrig van Antieke Kulture en/of Bybelse Hebreeus;
• Die vermoë om onafhanklik sowel as in 'n span te werk;
• Buigsaamheid om betrokke te raak by die leerplanne en modules wat deur die Departement Antieke Studie aangebied word;
• Vaardigheid in die gebruik van informasietegnologieë in die onderrig en bestudering van Antieke Kulture en Bybelse Hebreeus.

Recommendation/Aanbeveling

• A postgraduate qualification in Semitic Languages;
• Demonstrable knowledge of related research areas (e.g., Ancient Greek, Latin, Greco-Roman Studies), with the ability to teach in these areas;
• Proficiency in isiXhosa or another official language of South Africa;
• The ability to function well in a multilingual environment with diverse academic offerings.

  'n Nagraadse kwalifikasie in Semitiese Tale;
• Bewese kennis van verwante navorsingsgebiede (bv., Antieke Grieks, Latyn, Grieks-Romeinse Studie) en die vermoë om hierin te onderrig;
• Vaardigheid in isiXhosa of `n ander amptelike Suid-Afrikaanse taal;
• Die vermoë om goed te funksioneer in `n meertalige omgewing met uiteenlopende akademiese aanbiedinge.
